Grizzlies,
This year’s State Championship was a lot different down at Sussex Academy instead of at the University of Delaware, but the girls’ team did really great there! They even broke 2 team records! All of the girls swam a personal best or near personal best time.
The girls 200 Medley Relay team of Amanda Edge, Kate Rainbow, Grace Duquette, and Rebekah Marks dropped about 2 seconds off their seed time (best combined split times from this year), swimming a 2:12.81 and moving up two positions to finish 20th. Amanda swam a personal best 50 Backstroke split time of 32.98, dropping 1.77 seconds! Grace swam a near season best 50 Butterfly split time. Kate swam a personal best 50 Breaststroke split time of 39.99, dropping 0.37 seconds. Rebekah swam a personal best 50 Freestyle split time of 27.22, dropping 0.06 seconds.
Marissa Baker swam a personal best 200 IM time of 2:15.87, dropping 2 seconds and placing 5th in this event! Marissa is ranked #2 in this event on the all-time top 16 list.

Abby Rose broke the team 500 Freestyle record (her own) by 1.5 seconds, swimming a time of 5:29.75 and placing 11th in this event! Abby is ranked #1 in this event on the all-time top 16 list.
The girls 200 Freestyle Relay team of Amanda Edge, Rebekah Marks, Marissa Baker, and Abby Rose broke the oldest existing record on the books by 1.11 seconds, swimming a 1:48.03 and placing 10th! (This 10th place finish ties for the highest girls relay finish we have had in the past!). The previous 200 Freestyle Relay record was set on 2/27/16 by the team of Emi Cranker, Grace Lombardi, Summer Edge, and Jenna Henke, and it was great having one of the previous record holders, Coach Summer, there rooting for them and cheering them on! Amanda Edge swam a personal best 50 Freestyle time (as relay leadoff) of 28.32, dropping 0.30 seconds. This moves Amanda from #14 to #11 on the all-time top 16 list for the 50 Freestyle. Rebekah Marks swam a personal best 50 Freestyle split time of 26.94, dropping another 0.28 seconds. Marissa Baker swam a personal best 50 Freestyle split time of 26.16, dropping 0.02 seconds. Abby Rose swam a personal best 50 Freestyle split time of 26.61, dropping 0.36 seconds. That’s how you get a record – with all 4 swimmers swimming a personal best at States!
The girls 400 Freestyle Relay team of Abby Rose, Grace Duquette, Rebekah Marks, and Marissa Baker dropped almost 4 seconds off their seed time (best combined split times from this year), swimming a 4:02.47 and placing 13th. Abby Rose swam a personal best 100 Freestyle (as relay lead off), dropping 0.20 seconds down to a 58.95. Abby is ranked #3 on the all-time top 16 list for the 100 Freestyle. Grace Duquette swam a near personal best 100 Freestyle split time. Rebekah Marks swam a personal best 100 Freestyle split time, dropping more than 3 seconds down to a 1:01.29! Marissa Baker swam a personal best 100 Freestyle split time of 57.14, dropping 0.30 seconds.
In total, the girls team scored 52 points and finished in 14th place out of 38 teams in the state.
Way to go, girls!
Thanks to coaches Brynn Adams and Summer Edge for all their hard work! With having the team members so separated from the pool, it was such a blessing to have Brynn and Summer keeping track of the races and where everyone needed to be. Thanks to our families for all their help, support, and cheering from afar!
