Marilyn began homeschooling her oldest son in 1990 and graduated her youngest in 2015. Five of her six children graduated from Mt. Sophia. Two of her sons married fellow Mt. Sophia graduates. Marilyn has five grandchildren, with another expected in February of 2020.

In 1998, Marilyn and her children joined a coop and she has taught a variety of literature, writing, and science classes. Along with teaching, she has been doing academic advising for Mount Sophia, focusing on the underclassmen. She has a passion for both children and education.
